A Malaysian Long-Term Social Visit Pass is delivered to overseas citizens who wish to reside in Malaysia for a duration lengthier than six months. Who is Qualified

Required Documents

When applying for a Malaysian Long-Term Social Visit Pass, claimants should submit the resulting documents to the Immigration Department of Malaysia:

  • Two copies of the visa appeals forms (IMM.12, IMM.55, and IMM.38)
  • Complete photocopies of the claimant’s passport, as well as personal information sheets, previous visas, and the cover.

Documents needed for the spouse of a Malaysian national:

  • Copy of Wedding Certificate
  • Malaysian Sponsor Declaration form
  • Security Bond affixed with an RM10.00 revenue stamp

Documents needed for the family associates of Employment Pass owners:

  • A subsidiary letter from the Employment Pass holder’s employer
  • An approval letter from the Employment Pass holder’s employer
  • Two new passport-size photographs of the claimant/s
  • Wedding certificate (if appropriate)
  • Birth credentials of children, or adoption papers (as appropriate)
  • Guardianship papers (if appropriate)
  • Complete copies of all the claimants’ passports
  • Employment Pass holder’s Letter of Approval
  • For old parents who have no one to care for them in their home nation:
    • Personal Bond attached with an RM10.00 revenue stamp
    • A Legislative Declaration from the Malaysian national or permanent resident
    • The ID of the guarantor
  • Security Bond affixed with an RM10.00 revenue stamp

Documents needed for medical treatment:

  • A certified letter from the related Government or Specialist Clinic

When submitting papers, all the copies have to be attended with the original.

How to Apply

It is the Malaysian Immigration Department who provides the Long-Term Social Visit Pass. The Malaysian national/Employment Pass owner has to submit the appeal along with the needed documents to the Immigration Department before the arrival of the overseas citizen. If the claimant is the spouse of a Malaysian national, he/she should be present along with the Malaysia Visa with Reference when applying for the Long-Term Social Visit Pass at the Malaysian Immigration Department.

Malaysia Visa With Reference for a Long-Term Social Visit Pass

Before the overseas citizen can travel to Malaysia, he/she should obtain a Visa With Reference (VDR) from the closest Malaysian embassy. To apply for a Malaysian Visa With Reference, they will require a Visa Approval Letter from the Immigration Department (i.e. the reference) beforehand. All overseas citizens who travel to Malaysia for determinations further than travel should apply for a VDR. Documents needed for a Malaysia Visa With Reference are:

  • Visa appeal forms (IMM.12, IMM.55, and IMM.38)
  • Visa With Reference survey form
  • Two new photos of both spouses/claimants
  • Photocopies of both spouses/claimants’ passports
  • ID card of the Malaysian guarantor/spouse
  • Photocopy of wedding certificate

Length of the Malaysia Spouse Visa

The Long-Term Social Visit Pass is delivered for a minimum of six months and a maximum of five years. It can be renewed prior it ends.

Getting Employed with a Malaysia Long-Term Social Visit Pass

Family associates of Employment Pass owners, cannot be employed with only a Long-Term Social Visit Pass. If they find a company, they should apply for their Employment Pass.

Employment Authorization for Spouse of Malaysian National

Husband/Wife of Malaysian nationals can work in Malaysia without having to alter their Long-Term Social Visit Pass into an Employment Pass. As an alternative, they have to obtain approval to work in their passport by the Immigration Department of Malaysia, which is free of cost.
