Registration Certificate for Croatian Nationals

Though nationals of Croatia are permitted to visit any Associate State of the European Union, they cannot work inside the UK deprived of having a registration certificate. There are three diverse types of such certificate:

  • Is measured as a highly-skilled employee in the UK with complete liberty to work
  • Is  recommended by the skilled authority as a Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent)
  • Has got a Bachelor, Masters or a Doctoral gradation from a UK HEI, or a Higher National Diploma (HND) by a Scottish HEI
  • Is a posted employee (working in the UK for an EU corporation which functions out of the UK)
  • Is working in an ambassadorial mission (or another exempted group)
  • Is a legal Work Permit owner
  • Have an EEA national or a settled in the UK companion, parent or close relative
  • Is in the UK as a student, and either:
    • Has a registering certificate showing that they are working for over 20 hours for per week throughout the semester, or throughout the semester breaks
    • Has a student permit and they are working within the visa boundaries to work

Visas that permit the owner to work without any restriction:

  • The Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) (settlement authorisation)
  • Visa delivered under expatriate or humanitarian status
  • Optional Leave
  • Exceptional Talent Visa
  • Dependent Visa as a companion of a British national or someone residing as established in the UK
  • Dependent Permit as a dependent of a work authorisation bearer
  • Visa as a Highly Competent person under the Highly Capable Migrant Programme
  • Permit as a pre-Tier 4 Postgraduate Doctor and Dentist package

  • Blue registration certificate

Purple Registration Certificate

This certificate is provided to Croatian nationals who are needed to have a work permit to obtain a job in the UK. To be qualified to work, individuals in this group should get the purple certificate. To gain this certificate, they should have a sponsor employer in the UK, and the appeal for it can be completed from outside the UK. The regulation of having a sponsor employer or a purple certificate does not comprise those who have a degree delivered by a UK educational organization, or those who are recommended in Tier 1 Exceptional Talent.  They should receive a blue registration certificate as a substitute for working in the UK.

This is a two-step procedure, where the first step is obtaining the sponsorship certificate from a Tier 2 or Tier 5 certified sponsor company, and secondly, appeal for work permission or purple registration certificate. To gain a sponsorship certificate from any of Tier 2 or Tier 5 sponsors for working in any job in Tier 5, the similar circumstances apply for Croatian nationals as for all individuals in Tier 5. Yellow Registration Certificate

The yellow certificate is agreed to Croatian nationals who wish to get self-employed or who are students in the UK. This certificate is to present that the Croatian national has employment boundaries, and the appeal to take such document is completed only from inside the UK. Croatian citizens who meet the necessities for the yellow certificate are:

  • Self-employed: Should apply for this certificate though they do not have an employer to show it, they should be known as lawful self-employers through this certificate

    • Have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) both for himself and dependents
    • The certified university letter to offer information about the course as well as the date
    • Maintenance or financial sponsorship document (if applicable)

With a yellow registration certificate, a Croatian national can work for maximum 20 hours in semester period as a student, and as many hours it desires in a semester-break.

Dependents of Croatian Nationals Working in the UK

Dependent family associates (spouse, child younger than 21 years old, and dependent adult son, daughter, parent, and grandparent) of a Croatian national working in the UK (with any of the certificates described above) or who are established in the UK, are usually permitted to work in the UK also. Dependent Croatian nationals can appeal for a blue registration certificate to ensure their permission to work. Dependent Non-Croatian nationals can also request for a residence certificate to confirm their right to work in the UK, where:

  • They should appeal for an agreement residence card when the primary applicant has a purple registration certificate
  • They should appeal for a residence card when the principal applicant has a blue, yellow or no registration certificate
